Today’s Post by Blue Moon Staff
I strongly think that all women are beautiful and have always held that neither the size, ethnicity nor age of the woman being photographed matters when creating an artful photograph.
When photograping any model, especially a mature one, my goal is to make them look as beautiful as possible and it doesn’t matter to me if they’re 26 or 46 or 66, I want to make the best, sexiest portrait of the subject that’s possible. After all, it’s up to me to make the portrait, it’s the model’s job to show up and have fun during the session.
As we grow older we also grow wiser but at the cost of a few wrinkles, grey hairs and needless to say, the effects of gravity that I dare not mention. All of which brings me to the subject of retouching.
All my portraits are retouched somewhat regardless of the client’s age for the simple fact that once an appointment is scheduled anything can happen and the subject many not look their best on the day of the shoot. If you remember the discussion about the bride and groom had about getting zits in the movie My Big Fat Greek Wedding, you know what I mean.
How I Made This portrait
The featured image is of famous Internet model Maria Cedar and was made during one of our last photo shoots together. This image was one of the images I made of her that was part of a 12-shot sequence; This pose was frame number 9. The portrait was made in my home studio with lighting from a Paul C. Buff DigiBee DB800 monolight with a Plume Ltd Wafer softbox attached as the key light that was placed at camera right. An Alien Bee B800 monolight with 16×30-inch Westcott Apollo Strip soft box is at camera left while another Digibee with a 48-inch Dynalite Quad Square black/silver umbrella was at camera left in a back corner of the studio .
The camera used for the portrait was a Panasonic Lumix GH4 with Lumix G Vario 14-45mm f/3.5-5.6 lens (at 45mm) with an exposure of 1/160 sec at f/6.3 and ISO 200. Background was an inexpensive muslin that was later destroyed in a basement flooding incident.
Here’s a book nude photography that should be in everybody’s bookshelf:
