Modern boudoir photography is characterized by the empowerment of its female subjects, who are now typically a photographer’s clients rather than professional models. Boudoir photographs are sometimes given as a gift with the intention of re-affirming and encouraging romance between partners. It‘s also common for women to have boudoir photographs made as a gift for a partner—our Black Books make a great gift— on the occasion of an engagement, marriage or before an enforced separation such as a military deployment.
Increasingly, boudoir photography is seen as something a woman might do purely for their own enjoyment, for the pleasure and affirmation of seeing themselves as attractive, daring, sensual and desirable. What all this means to you is that you are in control of how you look and the image that you want to portray, which can be a side of your personality not normally seen or kept private for your loved one.
Nudity? As we’ve said here before, how much, how little or even at all is always your decision. And if being naked is in your comfort zone, who are we to argue? Ultimately it’s your choice as to what to wear or not wear, Some clients do some parts of a session in lingerie or later in the shoot when they’re more relaxed, as an implied nude, topless or totally nude. Some might say that the woman featured in today’s post is not fully nude because she’s wearing stocking. But as always, when it come to what to wear—or not to wear—you decide.
Your private and personalized session can also be a time to engage in a fantasy to enter into a realm where you can be or at least seen to be someone that’s the opposite of how many people—even you—might see as yourself in daily life. It’s a time to let your hair down and inhabit another side of your personality, if only for a brief time. In short, it’s fun.
