No matter how you feel, get up, dress up and show up. —Regina Brett
The first question that many mode;s ask us about their glamour portrait session is almost always: What should I wear? Here’s overview of just some of the clothing options for your intimate portrait:
Lingerie. But you don’t have any lingerie? Or maybe you don’t like what you do have? No problem, bring along your significant other’s white shirt or maybe your own white shirt. It creates a great look and is a classic for glamour or intimate portraiture.
A Dress: Or maybe all you really need is a dress. Yes, a dress.
Nudity is inevitably the second most asked question. While this client was comfortable with it, we recognize that not everyone is. But if you want to give it a try we can do what we did with aspiring model, Laura May Bachmayer (below) was to ask her to gradually play with her dress until she reached her maximum (or minimum—everybody’s different) comfort zone.
When it comes to what to wear or not everyone has different comfort levels, so ultimately the decision about what to wear is up to you.
How I Made this Portrait
This portrait of a aspiring model Laura May Bachmayer exploits the flexibility of the Flashpoint LED light’s barn doors. The Flashpoint LED was placed at camera right and a 32-inch reflector is at left kicking light back into the subject’s face. Closing down the barn doors on most continuous lights or studio flash with modeling lights turned on can generate lots of heat. The LED, on the other hand, remained cool. The camera uses was Canon EOS 60D with EF-S15-85mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM lens (at 67mm) and an exposure of 1/20 sec at f/5.6 and ISO 800
.
I like to think that very glamour image that I make is unique; its not a cookie cutter operation, which is why this final image has a moody, sexy look. By using the model’s own clothing the portrait is a representation of them that will stand the test of time.
